Registrations for the 18th edition of MIUT® – Madeira Island Ultra-Trail® open from 12 to 16 October 2026. To help athletes prepare, we’ve gathered the most common questions regarding registration, qualification requirements and validation procedures.
When do registrations open?
Registrations open at 15:00 (Madeira/Lisbon time) according to the following schedule:
- 12 October 2026 – MIUT LEGEND (110 km)
- 13 October 2026 – MIUT ADVANCED (80 km)
- 14 October 2026 – MIUT DISCOVER (56 km)
- 15 October 2026 – MIUT MARATHON (40 km)
- 16 October 2026 – MIUT STARTER (17 km)
Do all races require qualification?
No.
Qualification requirements only apply to:
- MIUT LEGEND
- MIUT ADVANCED
- MIUT DISCOVER
MIUT MARATHON and MIUT STARTER are open to all runners who meet the minimum age requirements.
What are the qualification requirements?
The qualifying result must have been achieved between 1 January 2024 and the date of registration and must be visible on your ITRA profile.
MIUT LEGEND
- Minimum 4 ITRA points, or
- Minimum 115 km-effort
MIUT ADVANCED
- Minimum 2 ITRA points, or
- Minimum 45 km-effort
MIUT DISCOVER
- Minimum 1 ITRA point, or
- Minimum 25 km-effort
What is km-effort?
The km-effort score is calculated using the ITRA formula:
Distance (km) + Positive Elevation Gain (m) ÷ 100
Example:
A 50 km race with 3,000 m of elevation gain equals:
50 + (3000 ÷ 100) = 80 km-effort
Does my qualifying race need to appear on my ITRA profile?
Yes.
The qualifying race must be visible directly on your ITRA profile at the time of registration. Results submitted through screenshots, PDFs or external race websites cannot be used for validation if they are not already registered on your ITRA profile.
Can I combine multiple races to meet the requirements?
No.
Qualification must be achieved through a single race. Multiple race results cannot be combined to reach the required ITRA points or km-effort score.
What happens after I register?
Once your registration and payment have been completed, the organization will review your qualification requirements.
Validation is usually completed within 14 days. If any information is missing or your qualification cannot be validated, the organization will contact you by email.
For this reason, please ensure that your email address and ITRA ID are entered correctly during registration.
Is my registration automatically confirmed?
For MIUT LEGEND, ADVANCED and DISCOVER, registration remains subject to qualification validation by the organization.
For MIUT MARATHON and STARTER, registration is confirmed once the registration process and payment have been successfully completed.
What are the minimum age requirements?
The minimum age requirements are:

Age is calculated as of 31 December 2027.
Can I register for more than one race?
No.
Each athlete may only hold one active registration for MIUT® 2027.
If an athlete registers for a second distance, the second registration will not be refunded and the athlete will also lose the right to the corresponding participation kit. Athletes who wish to change distance after registering must follow the official race change procedure, subject to availability and the conditions established in the regulations.
What should I prepare before registration day?
To make the registration process as smooth as possible, we recommend having the following ready:
- ITRA ID (if applicable)
- Identification document
- Emergency contact details
- Payment method
- Valid email address
Athletes registering for LEGEND, ADVANCED or DISCOVER should also verify that their qualifying race is already visible on their ITRA profile before registration opens.
